Manchester United will reportedly reject Getafe's moves to keep Mason Greenwood on loan for a second season, as the Red Devils look to cash in on the attacker.
The La Liga club have held talks over keeping Greenwood's services this summer, but the Old Trafford giants are interested in taking him back before selling him permanently.
Getafe acquired Mason Greenwood from Manchester United on a season-long loan on September 1, 2023.
The Red Devils felt that it was better for the Englishman to rejuvenate his career away from Old Trafford, following the backlash and tongue-lashing the club faced due to reports of welcoming the attacker back into their fold.
Greenwood is excelling in Spain, having moved to the country with his partner, Harriet Robinson.
The 22-year-old also became a father in July 2023, and he has been in a jolly mood months after his career was nearly truncated due to allegations of sexual assaults.
Mason Greenwood has made 27 appearances this campaign, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions.
The dual-footed attacker has reportedly caught the interest of several top clubs, including; Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Getafe as aforementioned want to extend Greenwood's stay at the Estadio Coliseum until the end of next season and have held talks with Manchester United over the matter.
However, the Red Devils aren't ready to approve another loan move for the England international.
Reports indicate that if they are to let go of Mason Greenwood, the focus will be on a permanent transfer.
It is uncertain if he would be sold, given Manchester United's co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hasn't closed the door on a potential return for the forward.
Ratcliffe in an interview in February 2024 shared that a decision would be made in due time on the Englishman's future.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe said: “It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made. He's on loan, obviously, but he's not the only one
“We've got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to decide on, so we will do that."
The British billionaire also said that the case will be keenly scrutinized and a “fair decision” is expected to be reached.
“The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision based on values.”
Greenwood's future is currently plunged in uncertainty, with many divided over whether he should return to Manchester United or not.
Supporters of the club are aware of his outstanding qualities and they want him back as they feel given that he wasn't convicted for sexual assaults he isn't guilty of the allegations heaped on him.
There are those on the other end of the spectrum who feel he shouldn't wear the colours of the Red Devils ever again, as they opine that he is only a free man because of the lack of cooperation amidst the parties that accused him of sexual assault allegations.
