Erik ten Hag's reunion with Sofyan Amrabat at Manchester United was a marriage of convenience. Having worked with the player in Utrecht in Dutch league, ten Hag deemed it necessary to bring the Fiorentina star to Old Trafford.

A permanent deal was previously proposed before the Dutch settled for a loan deal with Fiorentina. However, it was still believed United will go for a permanent deal for Sofyan Amrabat after the expiration of his loan deal.

As things stand, Erik ten Hag's transfer priorities in Man United's midfield has been reshuffled, as per the Sun.

The Dutch is reportedly set to part ways with Sofyan Amrabat when his loan deal expires this summer.

The decision to have the 2022 World Cup star return to Fiorentina has been linked to the return of Kobbie Mainoo to Man United's midfield.

After a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, Mainoo has recorded a huge breakthrough in his Man United career.

He starred in Manchester United Premier League win over Chelsea. Mainoo also earned the praise of Erik ten Hag against Liverpool, who said 'he is the future,' and he is expecting him to play a big role in the club.

In contrast to Kobbie Mainoo's sensational return to Man United, Sofyan Amrabat has struggled to pick his game at United. In his 17 appearances for the Red Devils, he is yet to register an assist or a goal.

The Morocco international is still regarded as a top player with his intimidating stats with Fiorentina in Serie A. Now, he is struggling to adapt to the pace of the game in the Premier League.

After joining Manchester United on loan, Amrabat's Man United debut was delayed due to injury setbacks but he has since regained his fitness, and is a regular in Erik ten Hag's starting lineup.

It is believed he could later improve his game if given enough time to adapt but the rise of Kobbie Mainoo has definitely stalled his chances of extending his stay at Old Trafford with a permanent move.
