Manchester United turned up the heat at Old Trafford to defeat Everton, courtesy of two well-taken penalties.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways in impressive fashion, silencing the Toffees at the theater of dreams.

In the 10th minute, Manchester United were awarded a penalty, after Alejandro Garnacho was fouled in the area by James Tarkowski.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, firing his effort well enough to beat Jordan Pickford in goal for Everton.

The Toffees tried to respond immediately, with the ball falling to Dwight McNeil in the box, the winger struck a left-footed volley, intended to beat Andre Onana in goal for Manchester United, however, his effort went wide of the left post.

Amadou Onana was the first player to get his name into the referee's book for a foul on Alejandro Garnacho on the edge of the Everton box.

In the 28th minute, Fernandes was denied his second goal, after hitting a delightful free-kick, but Pickford struck it away at full stretch.

Eleven minutes before the end of normal time in the first 45, Garnacho was at the scene of the action yet again, as he was fouled by Ben Godfrey, after driving into the box.

Bruno Fernandes, having scored the first penalty in the game, handed the spot kick to Marcus Rashford, who also expertly finished off the penalty, hitting his effort to the bottom left corner, with Pickford diving the opposite way.

Right at the last minute of the opening half, Manchester United protested for a third penalty in the first half, with Alejandro Garnacho reaching towards the byline before cutting the ball back across the area.

Mykolenko slid to the floor, and the ball struck his supporting hand, but no penalty was handed to the Red Devils.

The first 45 ended with Manchester United leading comfortably at the break, with Everton having a mountain to climb in the second half.

Several chances fell to either side in the second duration, but the scoreline wasn't altered, as the Red Devils strolled to a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought on for Beto in the 61st minute, while Lewis Dobbin also came on for Jack Harrison.

Andre Gomes was also introduced for Abdoulaye Doucoure, but the Toffees couldn't get back into the game or halve the deficit.

Scott Mctominay was booked in the 69th minute, for crashing clumsily into Amadou Onana.

Fifteen minutes before the end of normal time in the encounter at Old Trafford, Ashley Young came on for James Garner - two former players of Manchester United.

Erik Ten Hag introduced Sofyan Amrabat for Kobbie Mainoo late on, while Antony also came on board for Alejandro Garnacho.

Later on, both teams made their final set of substitutions, with Youssef Chermiti coming on Vitalii Mykolenko.

Youngster Willy Kambwala also got some minutes under his belt, replacing experienced defender Jonny Evans.

Hilariously, Manchester United could have received a late penalty in the 4th minute of added time, after Bruno Fernandes fed the ball to Rashford, who got into the box, before skipping past Braithwaite, who took down the forward.

Immediately, Simon Hooper pointed to the spot for a penalty, however, he changed his decision signaling an offside to Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways, having been beaten by Manchester City at the Etihad, about a week ago.

Following the win, Manchester United remain 6th, but 3 points behind 5th-placed Tottenham Hotspur, and 8 points behind Aston Villa, who sit 4th on the log.
