Manchester United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been sought after by DR Congo and may decide to change his international allegiance from England.

The former Crystal Palace player, born in Croydon, has Congolese roots and previously represented the country's Under-17s in a match against England, which England won 8-0.

According to The Sun, DR Congo is reportedly interested in including Wan-Bissaka in their squad for the 2023 AFCON which will commence in January 2024, and he is said to be "considering" the opportunity.

Although he has played for England at the Under-20 and Under-21 levels, he has not yet made a senior appearance for the national team.

Despite being called up in 2019, he withdrew from the squad due to injury, leaving him uncapped and eligible for another international team.

Meanwhile, some supporters believe that Wan-Bissaka should be given a chance to play at the international level, especially since he has not had the opportunity to play for England at the senior level due to the presence of Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, and Reece James.

One fan acknowledged that it would be a loss for Manchester United if Wan-Bissaka goes to AFCON but also recognized it as a good decision for his international career.

The fan posted: "Massive blow for us if he goes to AFCON, but would be a good decision for his international career."

Another supporter commented on the frequency of bad news coming from Manchester United, saying: "Man United must have some bad news almost daily."

How Wan-Bissaka's decision could affect Manchester United?

It is uncertain whether Wan-Bissaka will accept the offer from Congo, but if he does, it may not sit well with Manchester United.

The AFCON 2023 tournament runs from January to February 11th in Ivory Coast, and if Wan-Bissaka participates, United could be without the defender for over a month.

Additionally, first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana is expected to play for Cameroon at the tournament, further adding to United's potential absentees.

Following this, fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with one commenting on the continuous bad news for the team and another lamenting the unfortunate situation.

One stated: "A significant decision that could impact Man Utd’s right-back position during the tournament. All eyes on the 25-year-old’s choice!"

Meanwhile, United could lose some players as more Manchester United players could potentially play in AFCON 2023, including Amad Diallo, Hannibal Mejbri, and Sofyan Amrabat. They may be called up by their national teams.

What's next?

While the 25-year-old has not made a decision yet, but still thinking about switching, Congo, who has made it to the finals, will compete against Morocco, Zambia, and Tanzania in the group stage.
