Manchester United have been hit with a second injury blow involving top defender Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez, 26, suffered a knee injury during Manchester United's 3-0 Premier League win over West Ham United.

The Argentine center-back collided with opponent Vladimir Coufal and had to be subbed off after an initial attempt to have him continue with the game failed.

From the look of things, Martinez must have suffered another deep injury to his knee that could rule him out again for months. As of the time of filing this report, United are yet to confirm Martinez's injury update but a post-match interview granted by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag seemed to cast a gloomy outlook on the prospects of a quick recovery for the player.

According to Erik ten Hag, Lisandro Martinez's injury 'seems bad' and the player and the club are disappointed as well as he worked hard to return to fitness. Ten Hag, however, added the nature of the injury is yet to be determined as they await diagnosis results from the club's medical unit.

"It seems bad," Ten Hag admitted afterwards on Martinez's latest injury, per BBC Sport. "We have to wait, make the right diagnosis in the coming days, and then we will see. Hopefully, it is not too bad, we can only pray.

"He worked so hard to return and now after two games it looks like he has to sit some games out again."

It is the second time Manchester United will likely sweat with a possible lengthy layoff for Lisandro Martinez due to injury.

The former Ajax defender and World Cup winner has been out of action for Manchester United since September 2023 due to a metatarsal fracture for which he underwent an operation.

He missed action throughout last season and was back in United's 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the Premier League. He also played Newport County in the FA Cup and Wolves in the Premier League before earning his first start against West Ham United.

Another injury blow for Martinez could take a toll on Erik ten Hag's squad plans as he considers the Argentine key to his squad. United are expected to confirm an update on the injury situation soon with United fans hoping not to miss the player on another season-long layoff.
