Ever since then, the takeover procedure has been the talk of the town with Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim, and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe defining themselves as leading contenders.

Sheikh Jassim targeted a full takeover while Sir Ratcliff wanted a minority stake.

After almost a year, the Glazers announced their agendas. Currently, Sir Ratcliffe is believed to be closing in on the minority stake he was eyeing.

It is speculated that a deal between his chemical company, Ineos, and the Glazers family is moving near to being finalized.

Ratcliffe is stabilized to secure a 25 percent stake in Man United and it could result in broad developments being made across the club board, both on and off the pitch.

Several reports have suggested that a deal could be accomplished before Manchester United resume their English Premier League campaign later this month.

However, the 20-time Premier League title-winning club are about to embark on a new era after nearly a whole year of being up for sale.

According to reports on Tuesday, November 14, an American billionaire identified as Leon Cooperman has invested in the Premier League powerhouse, buying one million shares in the club believed to be valued at around 13.4 million pounds.

The 80-year-old former hedge fund manager could invest more in the future with his net worth reportedly standing at over two billion pounds.

The American businessman is the founder of Omega Advisors which is an investment corporation based in New York City.

Cooperman's investment will be quite less than what is expected to be acquired by Ratcliffe who is expected to pay 1.4 billion pounds for his part control of the Old Trafford outfit.

Cooperman joins funds like Psquared Asset Management AG, which purchased a stake rated at around £20 million, Antara Capital valued at £24 million, and Eminence Capital estimated at £14 million in buying Man United shares since the takeover saga began late last year.

The investment is somewhat small size which means that it is not required to have any negative effect on Ratcliffe's close deal.

According to football insiders, Ineos owner Ratfcliffe will also invest £245 million into the infrastructure of the Premier League club.

Meanwhile, the Glazer family will still maintain the majority share of the club despite an inflow of new investors at Manchester United.

However, Ratcliffe and his companions are speculated to take control of football operations when his takeover is finalized.

The 71-year-old has an understanding of high-level sports with his company Ineos owning and investing across several different football teams.

They own both Ligue 1 club side OCG Nice and Swiss Super League outfit FC Lausanne-Sport.
