Old Trafford is lighted-up for the first game of the 2023/24 Premier League season as Manchester United entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils head into this game with their minds fixated for success in the coming season.

Erik Ten Hag's side were third-best in the Premier League last term and they would be spurred to achieve glory in the 2023/24 season.

Manchester United have made necessary reinforcements this summer as they aim to get back their grip on English football.

It became 10 years in May, since the Red Devils last laid their hands on the Premier League title.

4 permanent managers have taken charge of the side since then; David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but still they haven't been able to win the title.

Erik Ten Hag is currently the man at the helm, the 5 managers since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure and they have another chance to aim for glory.

Just like Lionel Messi murmured before Argentina's world cup winning penalty against France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, “It could be today, grandma”.

It might just be the season for Manchester United to return to their glorious days on the home front.

However, they have stern challengers for the title as well, overwhelming favorites Manchester City remain in the hunt for their 4th consecutive Premier League title.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea are also aiming for glory, while outsiders Tottenham Hotspur might have something to pull off their sleeves.

Erik Ten Hag ended Manchester United's nearly 6 years trophy drought in February 2023, leading the club to the Carabao Cup title.

The Dutchman might also have the magic wand to lead the club to the Premier League title.

Manchester United have made three needed reinforcements this summer, signing Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

Reports also indicate that they are interested in signing; Sofyan Amrabat, Benjamin Pavard and Jean-Clair Todibo.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers have made rash moves in recent weeks, as they parted ways with Spaniard Julen Lopetegui on Wednesday, August 8, 2023.

Wolves have appointed former Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil to replace the Lopetegui.

The Wanderers finished 13th in the Premier League last term, in their fifth season since returning to the top-flight of English football.

Wolverhampton Wanderers parted ways with Julen Lopetegui due to a disparity in opinions on cogent topics.

The timing of the dismissal came as a shock to many and some have also termed it a costly move which might hunt them in the 2023/24 season.

Anyway, Gary O'Neil will be leading the club forward and supporters of Wolves will be hoping for relative success this season.

They have made four signings this summer and they hope those additions would come good in the coming season.

Wolves have signed Matheus Cunha, Boubacar Traoré, Matt Doherty and Tom King this summer.

Only time will tell if they would be able to have a great 2023/24 season by their standards or even reach astronomical heights.

Manchester United defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers in both outings last season, by 0-1 at the Molineux and 2-0 at Old Trafford.

In 18 meetings between the two sides, the Red Devils have won 10, Wolves have won 4, while they have also shared the spoils on 4 different occasions.

The Wolverhampton-based side are a bogey team to Manchester United and it was also evident last season, although not in the results.

Teams news for Manchester United

Dean Henderson, Tyrell Malacia, Tom Heaton, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo will not feature in the game due to injury.

New-signing Rasmus Hojlund will also not be playing in the encounter against Wolves as he is nursing an injury.

However, Andre Onana is expected to make his Premier League debut, while Mason Mount should also start for Manchester United.

There is a big decision for Ten Hag to make at Right back, either to play Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Diego Dalot.

Bruno Fernandes is almost a certainty that he would start, while Rashford might spearhead the attack.

Erik Ten Hag will also have to decide between Anthony and Sancho for the game, both who were impressive in preseason for Manchester United.

Garnacho is also expected to feature in attack for Manchester United.

Team news for Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves aren't facing any injury worries as their entire squad is seemingly in good shape.

New signing Matt Doherty might feature in this game, while following the departure of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Costa this summer, Wolves will have to find a good supplier of goals.

Daniel Podence is still available and fit to go and he can also be a handful for any defense.

It is unknown how Gary O'Neil will look to set up in his first game and what style he might utilize against Manchester United.

Manchester United possible starting XI: Andre Onana; Aaron Wan-Bissaka; Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw; Casemiro, Christian Eriksen; Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Antony; Marcus Rashford.
