Erik Ten Hag was impressed by his team's performance against Bayern Munich, despite embarrassingly crashing out of the UEFA Champions League following their defeat to the German side.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to the Munich-based side on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, sparking a massive uproar amongst fans of the club.

However, Ten Hag was pleased by the performance of his players, stressing that his “players gave everything” against Bayern Munich.

Erik Ten Hag has faced a raft of criticisms since the start of the season, due to Manchester United's poor form and his inability to find a winning formula for the team.

The Old Trafford club does not even look like they will turn the corner soon, and it appears like fans of the English giants can't take it anymore.

Anyway, the Dutch manager was full of praise and admiration for his players, despite witnessing his side soak home their 15th Champions League goal against Bayern Munich.

Manchester United conceded an English-record 15 goals in 6 Champions League games, an embarrassing record for a club of such lofty status.

Speaking after the encounter regarding his side's performance against Bayern Munich, Ten Hag said:

“The players gave everything, you saw the spirit. I have to credit the team, with big compliments for the way they worked together, as a team, against a good Bayern side."

The 53-year-old also bemoaned Manchester United's limited options in the team, pointing particular attention to the attacking department.

He added: “You need energy from the bench, especially our front line... and the options were limited”.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel, who watched his side go unbeaten in the group stage, following the victory over the Red Devils also spoke highly of his opposition on December 12, 2023.

Tuchel acknowledged the greatness of Manchester United and claimed that the group phase was tasking and daunting.

Thomas Tuchel, who watched his side pick up 6 points from an available 6 points against the Manchester-based club said:

“Manchester United is a huge club, remember that. When you see the group, you'd expect them to challenge to win the group and reach the round of 16.

“But from my experience, I can tell you we had a very difficult group. Now it looks easy, but it was difficult”.

Bayern Munich finished top of Group A, with 16 precious points from 6 matches, winning 5 games and drawing 1.

Manchester United bowed out of the UEFA Champions League, with a woeful 4 points from 6 group matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding 15 goals.

They secured only 1 victory throughout the group stage, a 1-0 win over Copenhagen on October 24, 2023, whilst suffering defeats against Copenhagen, Galatasaray, and Bayern Munich in both legs.

To put things into context, Manchester United's 15 goals conceded in the group stage that lasted from September 2023 to December 2023 (4 months), is the same amount of goals that Jose Mourinho's Chelsea conceded in the entire 2004/05 Premier League season, that lasted from August 2004 to May 2005 (10 months).
