Maria Zagallo, a Brazil and world footballing icon has passed on at the age of 92.
In a post shared on Zagallo's social media, it was confirmed the footballing legend has died. The post reads;
"With enormous sadness, we inform you of the death of our eternal four-time world champion Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo.
"A devoted father, loving grandfather, caring father-in-law, faithful friend, victorious professional and a great human being. Giant idol. A patriot who leaves us a legacy of great achievements."
Zagallo, 92, left his mark in the annals of football history. He passed as one of the most revered footballing icon in the world. Zagallo became the first person to win the World Cup both as a player and manager.
During his playing career, Zagallo played as a winger and was instrumental to Brazil's World Cup victories in 1958 and 1962.
After a legendary playing career, Zagallo transitioned to a manager with Brazil national team. He was nicknamed 'The Professor' for his mastery of the game and leading one of the best national teams in football history.
After winning two World Cups as a player, Zagallo won the won the World Cup as a manager in 1970 coaching one of the finest generation of Brazil which included the likes of Pele.
He led the team to 1998 World Cup final and the as close to winning his fourth World Cup trophy as a player and manager before Brazil lost 1-0 to France.
He had managed other national teams such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates, including several domestic clubs.
Brazil Football Federation condoled with the family of the deceased for losing the football icon. Tributes has been pouring in as well from Brazilian footballers, and other top footballers in the world.
Zagallo suffered from urinary infection and was hospitalized and discharged from the hospital in October 2023 before his sudden death.
