Mason Greenwood bagged his first career red card in Getafe's heated La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.
The Manchester United loanee has been in red-hot form for Getafe since joining the club to restart his career after 18-month exile.
Against Rayo Vallecano, Mason Greenwood recorded one of his toughest game since joining the Madrid-based club.
The game was extremely physical and was marred with wrangles and heated moments between the players. Center-referee Jorge Figueroa Vasquez did not spare the hooks as he matched every reckless tackle with a proportionate penalty. Vasquez dished out 10 cards in the game. Out of the 10 cards, Getafe bagged three red cards with Mason Greenwood among the three players sent off in the game.
Getafe player, Juanma Latasa was the first player to be sent off. After two reckless tackles, Latasa was given marching orders by Vasquez with two yellow cards.
Few minutes after Latasa's red card, Getafe conceded their first goal before going into the break.
Down to 10 men, Getafe's were dealt another blow numerically when Mason Greenwood bagged his red card. Meanwhile, the visitors made their numerical power count as they added to the tally in the 47th minute to make it 2-0.
Greenwood's red card was controversial. Prior to the red card, Greenwood made the cut of few Getafe players who were not booked by the referee. He was shown a straight red card after he complained bitterly for not being given a foul after a rough challenge by Rayo Vallecano player.
Explaining the controversial red card to Mason Greenwood on his match report, Vasquez alleged Greenwood used the word 'f**k you' while whinning on the decision not to award him a free-kick.
''In the 50th minute the player (12) Greenwood, Mason Will John, was sent off for the following reason: For addressing me in a sign of protest and raising his arm, in the following terms: "F*** you," Vasquez alleged on his match report.
Getafe ended the heated clash down to 8 men as Darmian Suarez picked Getafe's third red card in the game. Rayo Vallecano effectively galvanized on their numerical advantage to double the lead and ran out with a 2-0 win.
According to Spanish outlet, Mason Greenwood could face at least a four-match ban if the allegations levelled against him by Vasquez is proven.
A ban could roll back Greenwood's career gains at Getafe. The English youngster has impressed with the La Liga side after joining from United on loan.
He has scored 5 goals in 15 games for Getafe and has attracted interests from top clubs in La Liga.
