Mason Greenwood is reportedly ready to reject a move to FC Barcelona if he is allowed to make a Manchester United comeback under Sir Jim Ratcliff.

According to reports, the Man United academy graduate believes he has a deficit to repay the Red Devils supporters and the manager Erik ten Hag.

A source close to the 22-year-old indicated that Greenwood respected the decision Man United made to send him to Getafe in Spain, but he was always willing to return to the English club side after all police charges about domestic violence against him were dropped in February last year.

In a statement released by football insiders, they said; "He (Greenwood) believes he has a debt to repay the fans and the manager and would love a second chance.

"To him, Manchester United is the biggest and best club in the world and if a chance emerged for him to go back he would".

Since Greenwood got back to action on the pitch his performance has drawn the interest of several European clubs including FC Barcelona.

However, it is said that if Manchester United handed him a lifeline to rejuvenate his career at Old Trafford, he'd be on the quickest way to the club.

The new co-owner of Man United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted about Greenwood's possible return to Old Trafford earlier this week.

He said; "It’s a fresh decision. I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason".

"I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forward".

"You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have".

"What we need to do when we have issues like that is understand real effects, not the hype".

He added; "Then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it".

Reports claim that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Greenwood.

As a result, United have placed a new price tag of €40 million on the forward. Meanwhile, Man United may face intense criticism if they do pocket a major fee for the striker, given his previous behavior.

The Spanish giants have been monitoring the former one-cap England international all season during his loan spell at Getafe.

And the Nou Camp club had hoped to tie up a deal soon to make him a Barcelona player in the summer.

Greenwood, on the other hand, previously told his pals that a Barcelona transfer would be a dream move.

However, should Greenwood return to Man United in the summer, Red Devils boss Ten Hag is free to reintroduce the winger into the first team at Old Trafford again.

That came in January 2022 before his Man United suspension and arrest on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and domestic violence.

Meanwhile, all charges against Greenwood were dropped on February 2, 2023.

Since joining Getafe, Greenwood has made 24 appearances, scoring seven goals and registering five assists. However, during his time at Manchester United, he scored 35 goals in 129 appearances.

What's next for Mason Greenwood?

The striker could next be in action for Getafe against Barcelona this weekend, in a fixture that could potentially be billed as an audition for his future employers. They will then face Las Palmas at home on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
