Despite interest from Premier League giants Chelsea, Michael Olise has chosen to sign a four-year contract extension with Crystal Palace.
Reports on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, claimed that the Stamford Bridge club had activated a £35 million release clause for the Frenchman.
However, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish revealed on Thursday, August 17, 2023, that Olise would be remaining at Selhurst Park.
He has made 71 appearances for the Eagles across all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 19 assists.
Micheal Olise joined Crystal Palace from Reading on a five-year deal in the summer of 2021 for a fee of €9.3 million.
The 21-year-old is currently nursing a hamstring injury, which he picked up whilst representing France in the European Under-21 Championship.
Olise enjoyed a remarkable season for Roy Hodgson's side last term, making 40 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 2 goals and providing 11 assists.
Micheal Olise was handed the Crystal Palace Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 season, for his immense contribution to the team.
The winger was previously in Chelsea's youth system before leaving at the tender age of 14.
The Blues have already snapped up Moises Caicedo this summer from Brighton and they are also edging closer to sealing the deal for Romeo Lavia of Southampton.
Lavia has completed his medical at Chelsea and his arrival to Stamford Bridge is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.
This has resulted in mixed reactions, with many already putting them amongst favorites for the Premier League title.
However, some also feel that despite the signings made by Chelsea, they can't compete against the big guns, like; Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and even new challengers Newcastle United.
Some have also queried their business this summer and are wondering if they are acting in line with the financial fair play rules.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have already witnessed the departure of Wilfred Zaha this summer, who penned a three-year deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Jack Butland and penalty specialist Luka Milivojevic have also departed Selhurst Park this summer.
For reinforcements, Roy Hodgson's side have signed Matheus França and Jefferson Lerma.
The Eagles commenced the 2023/24 Premier League season on a winning note, with a 0-1 victory over Sheffield United.
Odsonne Edouard's goal in the 49th minute turned out to be the decider and Crystal Palace started the season with 3 points in their kitty.
Manchester City and Arsenal are also eyeing Micheal Olise, with both clubs keen to make more major additions this summer.
Olise has made 144 appearances so far in his career, scoring 13 goals and providing 33 assists across all competitions.
The 21-year-old has has got huge prospects and he could be one of the best in his position in the coming years.
