Arsenal may have to wait till the end of this summer for a new addition to the squad. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed Arsenal, who have been linked with some high-profile transfer targets this January, will not sign any player.

Speaking in an interview with TNT, Mikel Arteta revealed Arsenal can't do any January deal despite the team needing reinforcement in key departments.

"It wasn't possible to do any January deal for us.

"We didn't have the capacity to improve the team in the way we wanted to. So we decided not to do anything in the transfer yet."

Mikel Arteta's submission on Arsenal's January transfer plan shows the club would want to sign more players and reinforce the squad this January, especially in 'thin areas' but just opted to down tools due to lack of capacity.

The Gunners are among a few elite clubs in England with a sharply inexpensive squad, comprising players drawn mostly from the academy. Known for their frugal budget on transfers since the days of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal have maintained a tight budget when it comes to transfer spending and relies heavily on the club's academy to freshen the wheels and replace old legs.

Arsenal's top two attackers - Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka - are examples.

Mikel Arteta has been a good match for Arsenal since taking over the reins in 2019. He led the club to a top-four finish last season and also led the team to challenge for the Premier League title.

Despite his gains at the Gunners' dugout, Arsenal have been lacking on the attack. Compared to their Premier League rivals, Arsenal lack a proper striker to convert chances and complete the squad.

Arteta's recent comment means the Gunners will have to wait till the end of this summer before signing a striker. It is believed this could weigh heavily on their Premier League chances this season with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah misfiring at the finish line.

While the delay may come as a disappointment to Arsenal fans, it could be a blessing in disguise as well. Arsenal have been linked to Napoli and Nigerian attacking sensation Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen will not leave Napoli this January. Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed Osimhen will leave at the end of the season.

Arsenal is more likely to throw their weight fully into the move for Osimhen in the summer.
