The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai disclosed this in a speech he gave in a meeting he had yesterday.
He gave the speech in Hausa which was interpreted saying, "Concerning the presidential government, what Professor Akintola said is true. We the Northern governors of APC agreed that the presidential position should go back to the West. It was a verbal promise but a promise whether written or spoken, God knows."
"When we saw some people plotting for presidential position to remain in the North, we disagreed. We are not like that. We said we are Muslims. We have our traditions and we don't cannot go back on our words. That was the first step."
He continued, "The second step is, after we all agreed or they realized they cannot do anything, we will tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in this country. We agreed that we will support BAT. When we made that agreement, I was not in good terms with Asiwaju."
He continued by saying that if President Tinubu chose a Christian as his vice, he wouldn't have won the election. He said they did it mainly for the South-West Muslims to have a sense of belonging and to be able to rule in the future.
"There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win the election even Peter Obi didn't win. Since Asiwaju won the election, CAN couldn't even utter a word. That's how we will achieve peace in this nation. So if we keep bringing Muslim/Muslim ticket, everything will be going smoothly for us Muslims." He added.
