One of Moshood Kashimawo Abiola's sons, Abdul MKO Abiola, revealed during a podcast that the late politician and business mogul had 40 wives. He said that the will drafted by his father's Lawyer recognized the 40 wives and their children. Additionally, his father had a total of 103 children from all 40 wives. However, the DNA test confirmed that just 55 children were biologically his. Others were not biologically related to MKO Abiola and he didn't know of this till his death.

Polygamy is a broad and sensitive topic in Nigeria and Abdul's revelation about his father confirmed this. Many found it appalling to hear of the number of children Abiola had and wondered how he managed to have 40 women in his lifetime. Some opined that men with many wives can't expect loyalty from them all, the more reason why the deceased had just 55 biological children out of 103, despite playing fatherly roles for all the children when he was alive. Abiola was a politician considered one of the richest men in Nigeria during his time. He died at the age of 60 on the 7th of July, 1998.
