NAF Helicopter crashes in Port Harcourt
A NAF Helicopter recently crashed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This incident occured this morning, Friday the 1st of December 2023. The accident involved some Crew members of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). Luckily, these crew members who were involved I the accident survived it. It was a MI-35P helicopter that crashed in Port Harcourt. The crew consisted of 5 men who sustained injuries of various kinds.
The Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, who is Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet was the one who confirmed the crash. He released a statement on Friday to confirm the incident. He revealed that the accident happened around 7:45am. He stated that the crash took place shortly after the aircraft took off. They had been on their way for an operation in Rivers state.
In his words “The unfortunate incident occurred at about 7.45 a.m. shortly after the aircraft took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State… Fortunately, the entire crew of 5 survived the crash with very minor injuries and are currently being attended to at NAF Medical Centre Port Harcourt"
He also added “The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is currently en route to Port Harcourt to access the situation for himself, see to the wellbeing of the crew, and give further directives. Incidents of this nature are yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminal elements from their nefarious activities.”
