Nasarawa boat accident claims 12 lives
A boat accident which occured recently in Nasarawa state has claimed the lives of 12 people. 12 passengers on this boat died in a tragic accident recently.
The accident occurred at the Kogi Kungra Kamfani River located in Arikiya, Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State. There had been 19 passengers on this boat but only 7 people were rescued while 12 others died.
It was the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi who revealed this incident yesterday, Thursday, 24th of August. He shared the details of the incident during an emergency sitting of the House in Lafia. The lawmakers present observed a minute silence in honour of the victims who died.
The incident is a really sad one. The cause of the boat accident is yet to be known or revealed.
He said “It is very sad that we lost 12 people, compromising of men and women in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia Local Government Area. Nineteen people were on board, 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia Local Government Area and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident"
He sent his condolences to the bereaved families over the death of family members and friends who passed away.
“On behalf of myself, honourable members and members of staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia Local Government Area and the state government over their deaths in the boat accident. We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest.”
