In the past seven days, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has registered ten new cases of monkeypox in the country. In its latest monkeypox situation report, released on Friday, the NCDC made the announcement on its official website.

According to NAN, as the number of cases of monkeypox increases worldwide, public health experts and researchers doubt that the current outbreaks can be contained. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the situation is unlikely to develop into a full-fledged pandemic.

However, more than 1,000 diseases have been documented in nearly 30 countries, where outbreaks are rare.To try to stop the spread of the virus, countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States have begun using a practice known as "ring vaccination."

Smallpox vaccines are believed to be effective against monkeypox because the viruses are related to humans who have been exposed to monkeypox through intimate contact with an infected person.

The 10 new cases were reported during epidemiological week 22, which lasted from May 29 to June 5, according to the NCDC.

Between January 1 and June 5, the country confirmed 31 cases in 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, according to the report (FCT).
