NDLEA intercepts 8,852kg of illicit drugs consignment
NDLEA operatives have intercepted and seized about 8,852kg whuch amounts to 8.8 tonnes of illicit drugs in Lagos.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized this consignment in Lagos after after had engaged in a gun duel with these men.
The drug men were escorting the drugs which were loaded in 2 trucks. They engaged the police in a shootout but the police were able to overcome and seize the drugs.
These drugs are known as Canadian Loud. It is a very expensive synthetic strain of cannabis from Canada.
The NDLEA got intelligence about this activity and laid an ambush for them on the road
This was around 4:51am on Thursday, May 4.
They stopped these trucks but the drivers didn't stop and continued speeding and this was what led to the shootout.
The truck drivers and the armed men eventually fled to the bush and left the drugs behind.
Mr Femi Babafemi who is the spokesperson for the Agency revealed that one of the trucks had 149 jumbo bags which weighed 6,548kg, and the sound truck had 53 bug bags that weighed 2,304kg.
The total number of bags are 202 and they weigh 8,852 kilogrammes.
He also mentioned that officers are already investigating the drug lord behind it.
