Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has cleared the air on the culture of laziness at Manchester United, indicating Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba used to anger their team-mates because they were always late to training.
Pogba returned to Man United for a then-world record fee of 89 million pounds in the summer of 2016 but never repeated the form he demonstrated at Juventus for four years. He returned to Turin as a free agent in July 2022.
Meanwhile, Sancho has been banned at Old Trafford following his well-publicized quarrel with Erik ten Hag earlier this season and looks set to depart the club in January or at the end of the season.
Nemanja Matic, on the other hand, joined Manchester United from Chelsea back in the summer of 2017.
The 35-year-old has built up an outstanding resume during his football career with two Premier League titles and individual awards such as being part of the PFA Team of the Season.
He had a very remarkable career in English football and is now playing at Rennes in Ligue 1.
He has played for several clubs across Europe including Benfica, Chelsea, and Roma, and played 48 times for his country, Serbia.
Matic made the switch to Old Trafford, he reunited with former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, along with a swarm of other big-name signings made during this period.
The Mourinho period emphasized several problems at Manchester United. Then, 'The Special One' himself used to yell to the media about some of the biggest dilemmas facing the 20-time Premier League-winning club.
Matic has recently narrated some of the attitude situations and lack of professionalism at the club during his period there in an interview with reporters.
The Serbian International singled out two players in particular during his spell with the club, Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho as not being as punctual as possible. He also used that to explain the difference between playing for Manchester United and Chelsea.
He said; "At Chelsea, players acted professionally, they were punctual and were never late for training but at United, it happened almost every day. Among the players who would always be late were Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho and a couple of other players".
"At the time it caused tension within the team and he along with other players formed a disciplinary committee, with fines being dished out to those who failed to turn up to training on time".
"The rest of us who were always on time were angry so we decided to form a kind of an internal disciplinary committee with me serving as its president".
"I put a sheet of paper up on the wall where I documented the names of individuals arriving late. During one particular season, we collected around £75,000 in fines".
Current reports indicated that division between the players and current manager, Erik ten Hag.
The former Ajax has now banned some journalists from his press conferences. The incapacity of any coach, since Alex Ferguson left the club, to justify the billions of pounds spent on players to win trophies has been a glaring issue for the past 10 years.
After another terrible performance on Saturday night, December 2, in a 1-0 setback to Newcastle, the struggle levels of the players were brought into question once again by Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Paul Scholes, and Alan Shearer.
What's next for Manchester United?
It remains to be seen if the Red Devils will put much effort into their performance in the Premier League clash against Chelsea on Wednesday, December 6, after their poor form so far this season.
