The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have selected Vincent Enyeama as one of the coaching staff to join the Super Eagles camp ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Enyeama, is about to bring his years of experience into the goalkeeping department and create healthy competition among the current shot-stoppers.

Enyeama will be training the goalkeepers shortlisted for the African Cup Nations at Nigeria’s pre-AFCON 2023 camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Francis Uzoho, Stanley Nwabili, and Olorunleke Ojo are the three shot-stoppers that made the 25-man squad of head coach, Jose Peseiro for the African Cup of Nation's 34th edition which is set to kick off on January 13 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Reports claim that Vincent Enyeama agreed with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to be part of Eagles' squad some days ago.

After lengthy negotiations, the 41-year-old former keeper has accepted to work with the Super Eagles coaching staff as the three-time AFCON-winning nation strives for a fourth crown in Cote D’ Ivoire.

Legendary goalkeeper, Enyeama, who called it quits on international football in 2015 after making 101 appearances for the Super Eagles confirmed the development on January 1st when he shared a picture of himself wearing a Super Eagles shirt on his verified Instagram handle. He made the post with the caption: "Let’s go. See you in camp. Time for business".

The Super Eagles will lock horns against Burkina Faso and DR Congo in a mini-tournament while in Abu Dhabi for the one-week training camp.

Then, the Nigerian players are required to fly back to Lagos on Tuesday, January 9 with the Super Eagles, before they take off to Abidjan, the Ivory Coast capital on Wednesday, January 10.

The Super Eagles will take on Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14, in their first group-stage match, before further battle with the host nation Cote d'Ivoire on January 18, and Guinea Bissau on January 22, in pursuit of a fourth continental title.

What's next?

It remains to be seen how well Vincent Enyeama could work with the Super Eagles' goalkeepers.

Since the 41-year-old announced his retirement in 2015, the team has been struggling to find a better replacement for the one-time AFCON winner.
