Forbes had listed 2 women from Nigeria as among the world's 100 most influential or powerful women. These women are Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Mo Abudu.


Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is Nigeria’s former finance minister and current director-general of the World Trade Organisation while Mo Abudu is a popular filmmaker. These women have been recognised by Forbes among the world’s most powerful women in 2022.


Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was placed or ranked a number 91 on this list and Mo Abudu at number 99. This happens to be the 19th edition of this fibes list.

Quite interesting is the fact that these women were also on this list last year as numbers 91 and 98.

These influential women are the only Nigerians who were listed here.


Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala GCON is a Nigerian-American economist, who has been serving as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization since March 2021. She is also the first woman and first African to lead the World Trade Organization as Director-General. She is 68 years of age.


Forbes described Ngozi Okojo-Iweala as “an economist and international development professional with more than 30 years of experience working in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America.”

She was also the Chair of the Board of Gavi, which is the Vaccine Alliance that has immunised 760 million children globally.


Mosunmola Abudu, also known as Mo Abudu, is a Nigerian media mogul, philanthropist, and former human resources management consultant. She is 58 years old.

Forbes also described Mo Abudu as one of the most powerful women in global media.

In 2006, Abudu started Ebonylife TV, a network that now airs in more than 49 countries across Africa, as well as in the United Kingdom.


Forbes look at iconic entrepreneurs, pioneer philanthropists, CEOs and notable figures in the country who have in one way or another been influential in the society.


The president, European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen made the top of the list coming as number 1 most powerful woman.


Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen is a German politician who has been serving as the president of the European Commission since 2019. She served in the German federal government between 2005 and 2019.

The 64 year old spearheaded a 750-million-euro Covid relief bill in 2020 and, in 2022, became one of the West's staunchest supporters of Ukraine amid Russia's unprovoked invasion.
