Niger Police arrest Online 'businesswoman' for defrauding over a 100 people of N150m

A woman who is an online business person has been arrested for defrauding over a 100 people of N150 million.
It was the Niger State Police Command who made the arrest of this woman in Minna.

The woman has been identified as Akinnowonu Damilola Victoria who is 23 years old. She allegedly defrauded over one hundred people of a sum of N150m.

DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who is the spokesperson of the command, was the one who disclosed this in a statement on Friday

He mentioned that this woman had deceived her customers saying her goods had been seized by the customer after the order was made.

The statement revealed that this was a case of cheating, internet fraud and criminal breach of trust which involves this woman.

As soon as the case had been reported the police officers had been dispatched and they were able to arrest her with the help of her family.

During interrogation, she claimed that she has been running this online business for a year through a Facebook link.

She says she gathered many customers and they would place their orders for female clothing, bags, laptops and other things she displayed.

She revealed how some customers complained about the prices and would take the order at a low price and use the proceeds to supply some other customers.
She said eventually after piling up orders, she could now meet up.
She then deceived her customers that the customs had seized her goods.

She had also rented two warehouses in Minna using over 2 million and she used these warehouses to aid her fragment activities.

She then confessed to owning over a 100 customers about N150m.

About 72 out of these victims have shown up at the station to give their statements about this case.

The police revealed that the case is still under investigation and as soon as they conclude, she will be tried in court.
