Popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has revealed the time she experienced sexual harassment in the Nollywood industry. She was speaking in a recent interview on TVC entertainment news and she shared how it was for her coming up as an actor. She revealed her beginning stages and how she got her first role. She shared that she almost quit the movie industry because of her experience of sexual harassment.

Mercy Aigbe is a famous Nigerian actress. She is married to Kazim Adeoti. She has 2 children from her first relationship. She is an actress, movie producer and entrepreneur. According to her, the movie producer had been making some passes at her after a movie audition. She says she earned the role in that movie because she gave it her all with the rehearsals and audition but the man wanted her instead. She disclosed that despite all these, she persisted and was able to make her way to the top because of her consistency.

She shared that she met a producer in Surulere and told him she wanted to act. He then told her that he had an upcoming film, and invited her to his office for an audition. She went through the first stage, second and third stage of the audition and passed them. She then went to his office and and she got there, she was given a different role. The new role was a minor one of about 1 line. She got upset that this was not the character she was auditioning for. He then responded saying the director didn't give her the role because he doesn't know her.

In her words " The director said he did not know me, and that was why he said I should be close to him (the producer)...He had been making passes at me before then, but he did not come out clear until that day. He then stood up and tried to touch me. I was very upset. I told him to calm down. I told him he could not do that to me. I earned the role. I was upset "
She says that she then thought that if that was what it took to become an actress then she didn't want it again. "I did not want to be an actress anymore. I tore the script and left. On my way home, I cried because I had left a well-paying job to join Nollywood, and I was already a single mother at the time.”
