Nigerian Equities Market – Daily Summary (15 August 2025)

The market closed in negative territory again today as the NGX All-Share Index (NGXASI) dropped by 0.46%, ending the day at 144,628.20 points compared to the previous close of 145,300.01 points.

Despite this decline, the year-to-date (YTD) return remains strong at +40.17%.

Market activity was lower than the previous day:
• Trading volume fell sharply by 43.8%, from 2.38 billion shares to 1.34 billion shares.

• Market turnover (the total value of transactions) also declined by 38.6%, from ₦20.51 billion to ₦12.59 billion, executed in 30,396 deals.

The market breadth stood at 0.77x, showing a weak market sentiment — there were 34 gainers compared to 44 losers. Trading volumes increased for 49 companies but declined for 91 companies.

Strong Performers Over the Past 5 Days
Several stocks delivered remarkable multi-day gains. The standout performer was LOTUSHAL15, which rose 44.7% in 5 days and 9.62% today alone. Other notable names include TRIPPLEG (+30.23% in 5 days), MERGROWTH (+20.90% in 5 days despite a daily drop), and MECURE (+20.50% in 5 days).

Mutual Benefits Assurance (MBENEFIT) also stood out, posting a 5-day gain of 19.94% and closing today at ₦3.85 with a maximum daily increase of 10%. Similarly, VETIVA Consumer Goods ETF (VETGOODS) gained 10% to end at ₦38.50.

Biggest Decliners Over the Past 5 Days
The worst performer was UPDC, down 25.20% in 5 days, losing 9.72% today alone. GREENWETF fell 16.27% over the week, including a 10% drop today to ₦351.00. Other notable laggards included CUSTODIAN, NEM, UNILEVER, and STERLINGNG, each posting sharp declines in recent sessions.

On the daily losers’ chart, GREENWETF, LASACO Assurance, LINKASSURE, and INTENEGINS all fell by the maximum 10%, while NEM dropped 9.97% to close at ₦32.50.

Takeaway for Investors
• The market remains volatile with more losers than gainers, suggesting cautious sentiment.

• A few stocks are seeing strong momentum despite the broader market weakness — particularly ETFs like VETGOODS and dividend plays like MBENEFIT.

• The sharp drop in trading volume and turnover could indicate reduced investor participation ahead of possible market catalysts or profit-taking phases.
