Nigerian students trapped as evacuation buses stop in dessert
The buses that were evacuating Nigerian students who were caught in the Sudan cross have stopped in the dessert. They stooped in Sahara dessert insisting on their complete payment.
Recall that recently, the Federal Government was said to have released a sum of N150 million to hire 40 buses to evacuate Nigerians in Sudan to Egypt.
It was Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa who is the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission who revealed this statement.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs had also mentioned that the government had spent millions to evacuate students from Sudan.
And this is only for the buses since Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s biggest airlins had promised to evacuate them for free.
The transport company that owns the buses that were hired had ordered its drivers to stop halfway during the journey because according to them, only 30% was paid to them.
These arguments that were being evacuated were seen in a video narrating how the buses had stopped in the middle of the dessert.
Mrs Dabiri-Erewa reacted to this video saying that it is expected for challenges to occur because the evacuation process is a serious one.
She said the government is in touch with the students and they would resolve he matter.
She revealed that Sudan is where Nigeria has their largest Diaspora population. She also mentioned dother challenges of how people who didn't register now want to come back to Nigeria and there's a lot of tension.
Air Peace and NAF are set to airlift the first batch that have arrived in Egypt back to Nigeria. The airlines took off from Abuja and will bring the Nigerians back home today.
