NSCDC arrests fake currency syndicates
The Nigerian security and civil defense corps (NSCDC) have arrested 2 fake currency syndicates.
The special intelligence squad of the NSCDC apprehended 2 groups of people who deal with the printing and sales of fake dollar notes.
The spokesperson of the NSCDC in person Olusola Odumosu broke the news yesterday, Friday,the 10th of March.
He said that through investigation, they figured out these groups of people carry out their activities in and around Plateau, Nasarawa Gombe and Bauchi state in Nigeria.
He mentioned that there were 4 male adults in one of the groups arrested who possessed $64,800 and also N475,000 with them.
The second group included 5 adult males who also had fake currency amounting to N1.5 million naira in their possession.
During his statement, he also mentioned the names of everyone one of these men who were arrested for this illegal activity.
They caught the first person who was lured to Nasarawa and the NSCDC squad arrested him on the 22nd of Feb. He was found with fake notes worth N412,000 in his possession.
He eventually confessed and gave up the name of the person he was getting the fake notes from which led to the arrest of another syndicate in Plateau State on that same 22nd of February 2023. He had about N49,650 with him.
This man also confessed and ratted out the name of his supplier and by March 3, 2023, the NSCDC had also arrested this man at the motor park in Plateau State. This man also had N350,000 fake newly redesigned Naira notes in his possession.
With time, the NSCDC caught all of them involved in the first group which had $1.5 million when the men confessed to who the others involved were.
For the second group, the men were also caught and at the point of arrest were found with fake dollars and the newly redesigned Naira. They confessed that they had been doing this illegal business for over 5 years.
The team was praised for the job of arresting these people because they had done enough damage to fraudulent actions, and other financial crimes.
The Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, also mentioned that this was a good thing for the country. This would help to cub distribution of fake currencies in the country.
He also admonished the team to continue so as to catch others involved in such crimes. He went ahead to warn criminals involved in such activity to quit and get better legitimate business or face the law. He assured everyone that everyone will eventually be fished out
