OAU student beaten to death over stolen phone
Just recently, a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) was beaten to death over a stolen phone.
The name of this student is yet to be released but he stole a mobile phone and was beaten to the point of death by the mob.
This person happens to be a final year student of the university.
This person was accused of stealing a mobile phone in one of the halls of residence, Awo Hall.
This was on Monday in Awo Hall. He was seriously beaten before they moved him to another location on Tuesday.
The beating seriously harmed his health and he had to be rushed to the OAU Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife.
That same Tuesday, in the afternoon, he was declared dead.
The university Public Relations Officer Abiodun Olanrewaju was contacted and he said that a student had died and investigations were still ongoing.
It was the president of Ife Students’ Union, Folahan Olayiwola, who confirmed that the student was beaten to death by a mob at the Hall of residence.
He released a statement saying that he regrets to announce the death of the finalists who was declared dead as the arrived at the hospital on Tuesday.
He mentioned they were waiting on the official reports from the law enforcement agencies.
He mentioned how sad this incident was because their union wasn't that of Barbarians.
He mentioned that arrests and investigations of those who are linked with the assault will be made.
He also mentioned that until the investigations are done, the activities of the Hall Executive Council of Awo Hall will be suspended.
