Obasanjo writes to UK court over Ekweremadu case

Olusegun Obasanjo the former president of Nigeria has written to the court regarding Ekweremadu's case.
He wrote to the Central Criminal Court in Old Bailey, London. He wrote to ask for mercy for the Ekweremadus. This was regarding Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice who were arrested not too long ago.
The duo were convicted of organ trafficking recently.
Obasanjo addressed the letter to the Chief Clerk of the court. The letter He wrote was dated April 3.
He mentioned that they should consider the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom(U.K.).
He also mentioned that they should consider the daughter of the Ekweremadus. The daughter, Sonia is 25 years old and in need of a Kidney. Obasanjo wanted the court to consider her health.
The UK court had convicted the Ekweremadus and the doctor who was involved. This was for deceiving a young man who is a street trader in Nigeria and bringing him abroad to take his kidney.
He was to donate the kidney unknowingly to Sonia.
Sonia wasn't convicted, the court cleared her and went ahead to sentence her parents.
The prosecutor mentioned that what they did was dishonest and hypocritical.
Obasanjo said for the sake of the daughters condition, who needs urgent medical attention, he appealed for mercy on their behalf.
He mentioned that he hopes the Ekweremadus have learnt their lesson from this incident. He hoped that this would influence their actions in the future.
He also mentioned how has known Ike Ekweremadu for a long time. He mentioned that he is a God faring man and hood politician.
He mentioned the relationship between them and how he has watched him.
