Obrafour sues Drake for copyright infringement
A Ghanaian musician known as Obrafour has sued popular Canadian musician, Drake to court for copyright infringement.
The Ghanaian star is take Drake to court for an unauthorised sampling or use of his song.
The Ghanaian star is seeing Drake because he sampled his song without permission.
Sampling is quite common among musicians as some sample from others to make their own music but one must first take permission from the original owner of the song.
When a musician samples a song without proper permission, it is taged as a copyright infringement.
According to Obrafour, Drake sought for permission but it wasn't granted but he went ahead to use the song.
Imran Ansari who is the lawyer of the Ghanaian musician has mentioned that Obrafour is the lawful owner of that song and Drake making use of it is an unlawful act.
He mentioned that he released this song “Oye Ohene (Remix).” in 2003 and then Drake sampled it one of his recent muci titled “Calling My Name.”
He also revealed that other than not receiving permission to use it, he also didn't give credit to or compensate Obrafour.
Obrafour has presented the court with 4 exhibits to prove that he is the lawful owner of the song.
He has also asked the court for not less than $10,000,000 as payment of damages.
