Okechukwu Onyegbule is popularly known as Okey Bakassi and he is a stand-up comedian.
He has revealed his journey to stardom.

He mentioned his days of little beginnings, and how he strived to become a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry in Nigeria today

He revealed all this information while he was mentoring some youths in Lagos last week. This was during the pre-launch of Stars and Legends reality TV show, in Lagos.

This year, his journey in the entertainment industry will mark 3 decades.

He said he had arrived Lagos in the 90s having dreams of changing his story. He said the road to stardom was rough but he didn't give up.

He had gotten to Lago for NYSC, having only N750 with him.

He had asked people for directions to the NYSC camp and settled down. He started serving at the Nigeria Industry Development Bank after his orientation.

He said he loved entertainment and after youth service, he didn't know if he should pursue a career in Engineering or going into entertainment.

He said he was confused because he was still young but eventually met with a friend for advice and this person told him to follow his heart and my happiness.

He told him the choice belongs to him and mentioned that he may suffer but if he works hard he will succeed.

He said that's how his journey started and he went into entertainment.

He said it was hard to get any roles because of serious competition and had to branch into being a props manager, location manager and some other roles so that he can make ends meet.

But he has now risen in the industry and would even be marking his 30 years in the showbiz industry during a concert he would organise later this year. The comedian is in his fifties now.
