Notable music executive Olumide Ogunade popularly known as ID Cabasa has revealed that he discovered singer Olamide when he was only 13 years old.
ID Cabasa disclosed this in an interview with Afrobeats podcast, anchored by Adesope Olajide. The founder of Coded Tunez opened up about how heartbroken he felt when Olamide left his record label because he was more like a son to him.
ID Cabasa said he met Olamide when he was just 13, after visiting his studio with a friend who wanted to record a song. ID Cabasa felt reluctant to work with his friend because he wasn't good enough. He then approached Olamide and persuaded him to sing after giving him a beat.
He was impressed after Olamide did 16 bars on the spot and that led to signing him to his record label, Coded Tunez. Olamide left Coded Tunez in 2012 to start his record label, YBNL, one of the most successful record labels in Africa today.
YBNL has housed various artists from Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Lyta, Chinko Ekun, Asake, and Fireboy. Apart from owning a record label, Olamide has impacted many artists including Portable, Bella Shmurda, Zlatan and still counting.
