Osinbajo presents discharge certificate to chairman of Transcorp power
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presented a discharge certificate to the chairman of Transcorp power.
Osinbajo presented the discharge certificate to Mr Tony Elumelu who is the Chairman of Transcorp Ughelli Power Limited and a core investor in the Ughelli Power Plant.
He revealed on Monday that to meet the country's rising energy needs, it will take the involvement of a serious private sector investment into the power sector of Nigeria.
He revealed this when he presented the certificate.
This discharge certificate is coming a month after the National Council on Privatisation approved the recommendations of the Bureau of Public Enterprise.
The recommendation given was that Ughelli Power Plc should be delisted from routine monitoring. This is because they satisfied the 5 major post-acquisition requirements.
These requirements include human resources, health, available capacity, capital expenditure, safety and environment and corporate social responsibility.
The Ughelli Power Plant was commissioned in 1966. They had an installed capacity of 972MW.
They then became an asset Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc in 2013.
They are under Transcorp Ughelli Power Limited which is a subsidiary of the company.
Osinbajo applauded the management of the company and advised them to do more and better.
