Residents of Garage Olode, in the Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, protested the town's entire blackout for the previous 12 years on Saturday.

The demonstrators, who came out in large numbers to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the poor pace of the Osun State government's ongoing electrification and reconnecting project, stopped the key Ondo-Ife road.

The steady flow of traffic on that stretch of road was disrupted as a result of this development.

They were equipped with placards bearing various inscriptions, all of which urged Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to guarantee that their time in the dark came to an end as soon as possible.

The enraged demonstrators blocked the major road for over two hours, leaving several automobiles and their passengers stuck.

On being questioned, the Osun Commissioner for Works, Oluremi Omowaiye, indicated that power would be restored to the town within the next three weeks.

Omowaiye went on to say that the state government had invested much in the project.

"It is terrible that they have not had power supply since 2009," he said, but the good news is that the power restoration project initiated by the Oyetola administration will be completed within the next three weeks, and there will be power. I can certify that the Oyetola government has put a lot of effort into the project. So they'll be smiling shortly.

According to reports, the State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, flagged-off the reconnection of the town to the national grid in June 2021, but the project has not yet been completed.
