Oyo government says they haven't approved of a new Alaafin.
The Oyo State Government, mentioned that they haven't approved anyone as the new Alaafin of Oyo State. They revealed this information yesterday.
Recall the position of the Alaafin has been vacant ever since the last Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi passed on.
He died last year at the age of 83. He had spent 52 years as Alaafin.
Some information was going round saying that Lukman Gbadegesin who was one of the contestants for the Alaafin position had been appointed but the commissioner for information, Culture and Tourism has mentioned that the process is still ongoing.
The commissioner, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, had told people to stop spreading such rumour.
He said that as far as they are concerned, the government has approved anyone as the new Alaafin of Oyo State.
He has wanted people to desist from spreading such fake news.
The government would rather have these process delayed than hurriedly elect someone and repeat the instance where the monarch had to be removed by the courts because they failed to abide by the processes required.
