Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) has secured a $100 million contract from the US Department of Defense to expand the use of its Maven Smart System, an AI-based digital warfare platform. This contract will increase access to Palantir’s artificial intelligence targeting tools for US military personnel across all five service branches, including the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force.

Maven Smart System
The Maven Smart System integrates US intelligence data with computer-vision algorithms, providing real-time battlefield data on thousands of screens simultaneously. The system has been employed to help identify targets for airstrikes in conflict regions like the Middle East.

Contract Details
The five-year contract includes user licenses, software support, and hardware, with a total value of $99.8 million. Palantir had already secured a $480 million contract earlier this year to extend the platform to combatant commands, further advancing the US military’s digital capabilities.

AI Use in Defense
While the use of AI in military targeting has sparked debates over human rights and trust in machine decision-making, US defense officials stress that final decisions remain with human operators. An advisory body from the UN has urged nations to limit military AI usage to prevent ethical violations and a potential arms race.
