Peter obi expresses sadness over GSK’s departure from Nigeria.
Peter Obi who is the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed his sadness over the departure of GlaxoSmithKline Nigeria Plc.
GlaxoSmithKline is a consumer pharmaceutical and healthcare company tasked with distribution of healthcare and pharmaceutical products.
The company released a statement on Thursday about their plans to cease their operations in Nigeria through their subsidiary GSK company. They however plan to appoint a third-party distributor in Nigeria and this will be for the supply of its consumer healthcare products in the country.
GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc was integrated in 1971.
Peter Obi has taken to his Twitter to express his sadness about GSK leaving Nigeria after 51 years.
Peter Obi revealed that the reason the company gave foe leaving is quite sad. He says they revealed how they no longer perceive a prospect for the country as a business environment that would be anchored on productivity.
Peter Obi revales this was a result of the poor management of the Nigerian economy. He sais this will lead to loss of jobs for some Nigerians and worsen the poverty index of the country.
He revealed that this company has created many jobs as well as training which has contributed to the human capital development in Nigeria.
He shared that with all these including the creation of job opportunities, will be taken away if this company leaves and this will result in more Nigerians been unemployed.
He believes that the creation of an environment which will create and sustain multinationals that can invest in Nigeria is very key and essential to greatness.
