Police arrest 31 suspected robbers in Osun state


Officers of the Osun State Police Command have arrested about 31 criminals suspected to be robbers in the state. These criminals also include a gang that specialises in making use of some drugs (sedatives) on a bike riders or commercial motorcyclists so they can steal their bikes.

It was the spokesperson of the Osun state Police command, Yemisi Opalola, who released a statement on Tuesday, Ocrober 17, 2023 to Confirm this news. She stated that these suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from theft to armed robbery and memberhip in Gangs.

She stated “On 14th September 2023 at about 5:45 pm, a commercial motorcyclist reported a case of stolen motorcycle at ‘B’ Division Ede and stated that, on 11th September 2023, two (2) unknown men employed his service as a bike-man, in the process he was offered a can of Maltina soft drink which he accepted and drank. Consequently, he slept off and was dispossessed of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with Registration No. AAW 751 QF. The case was later transferred to Anti-Vice Intelligence Squad Osogbo. On receipt of the case, one Abubakar Usman and Abubakar Bello were arrested and they confessed to be members of a syndicate who usually come from Lagos State to snatch motorcycles from Okada riders by drugging them. Useful information from the suspects led to the extension of the investigation to Lagos State where one Mustapha Yinusa ‘m’ was also arrested. The suspect also confessed to being a member of the syndicate. Meanwhile, five (5) out of the stolen motorcycles were recovered in Lagos State as exhibits.”

She revealed that they arrested 13 suspects who were members of a gang in Iresi town, they also arrested another 10 members of another gang of robbers. These Gang members were responsible for attacking people in the state. She also revealed that they were arrested in various places in Ibadan, Oyo State and Akure. She disclosed that investigation is still ongoing into the case. She then advised residents of the atte to stay away from moving in vehicles which are not registered vehicles. She also pleaded that they share any information that would help them.
