Police arrest man for selling his new born grandchild for N700,000

The police command in Oyo State have arrested a man who sold his new born grandchild for a sum of N700,000. This man has been identified as Monday Chukwuka. He is the grandfather of the one day old baby that he sold.

He was arrested by the Oyo State Police recently. The police command has released a statement regarding this issue. The statement was signed by the State Public Relations Officer, who is Adewale Osifeso. The statement was released to news men on Saturday.

They arrested the suspect where he was hiding in the Ibafo area in Ogun State. They had gotten credible intelligence which led them to make this arrest. This was on the 10th of July. It was then they received intelligence and made the arrest.

They revealed that the man is the biological father of a young girl (Sarah Chukwuka) who is the mother of this baby. This suspect has confessed to his crimes of selling his daughter's baby who was newly born.

After the girl delivered the child, the father took the baby away from her and this was under the pretense of him handing over the child to someone who would take care of the baby.

The police revealed that the baby was sold to a criminal cartel that operates a baby factory in Abia State.
The police also revealed that they were able to recover some new birth certificates as well as some equipment which are being used for baby deliveries. They recovered all these from the factory.

They then began an investigation and planned a raid on the baby factory. They were also able to arrest 5 people from this factory.
These other suspects include Popoola Bunmi, Chinwedu Peter, Chidinma Blessing, Chuckwu Christopher, and Favour Chukwu,

The grandfather who sold the baby revealed that the reason he sold the baby was because he could not afford to take care of both his daughter who is all a teenager and the baby.
He shared that the money he got from the sales of the baby was used to rent a shop and stick up with goods.

One of the arrested suspect who has been identified as Favour Chukwuka was the one who bought the baby. He claimed that it was a couple who requested that she look for a baby because they were childless.
Favour kept N50,000 out of the N700,000 and handed over N650,000 to Monday.
