Police arrests suspects with bags of fake foreign currency

The Lagos police have arrested 5 suspects who had bags of fake foreign currency. They have arraigned these suspects who are 5 in number before a Yaba magistrate court in Lagos state.
These men had been arrested with bags of fake foreign currency including dollars and pounds sterling.

They were arraigned before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on Wednesday August 16, 2023. Other than the fake currency, they also had Indian hemp in their possession
These men are to be kept in police custody until they receive legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution for next action.

These suspects have been identified as
  1. Francis Omwukei who is 26 years old
  2. Kingsley Ude who is 33 years old
  3. Umar Idris, 37 years old
  4. Eyo who is 27 years and
  5. Bright Ahamefula, 26 years old.
They were arraigned on a two-count charge of possession of Indian hemp and fake foreign currencies which are US Dollars and Pounds Sterling. These men were arrested on the 9th of August, 2023. The police arrested them at White Sand, in Ijora, Lagos State.

The charge was read to them and it says “That you, Francis Omwukei, Kingsley Ude, Umar Idris, Eyo, and Bright Ahamefula, on August 9, 2023, at White Sand, Ijora, in Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully had in your possession leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and two bags containing fake US Dollar currency, and pounds sterling currency, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 329 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

All 5 of them pleaded not guilty to these charges. The magistrate then ordered that they be kept in police custody for seven days in the absence of a remand warrant.
The case has also been adjourned till August 23, 2023 and this is for DPP advice.
