Police kill 4 suspected kidnappers in Delta state
Officers of the Delta State Police Command have killed 4 suspected Kidnappers in the state recently. The command revealed that they killed these Kidnappers when they had ambushed some police operatives because they wanted to free their fellow arrested suspects. These Kidnappers had been trying to rescue their fellow Kidnappers who had beem arrested by the police and then set ambush for the police.
The police in turn where able to neutralise these Kidnappers. It was the state Police Public Relations Officer who is DSP Bright Edafe, tgat made this revelation. He disclosed this in a statement which was released yesterday, Thursday, September 28 in Asaba.
The DSP revaled that these Kidnappers have been on the wanted list of the state Police command for over 2 years. The command had been tailing the leader of this kidnapping syndicate for a while now. This lead had been responsible for a bank robbery in Delta some years back.
In his words “The Command has been on the trail of one “momotimi”, the leader of a dreaded kidnapping syndicate responsible for the bank robbery operation at a microfinance bank in the Udu Local Government Area in 2021. On September 23, 2023, while acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, detailed the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division to follow up on the intel"
He also added "Consequently, the DPO, CSP Aliyu Shaba, led a team of policemen in a sting operation to the hideout of Momotimi and his gang members in Rivers State. The policemen in a combined effort with operatives of the Rivers State Police Command’s Rapid Response Team arrested the said David Momotimi, 32, alongside three gang members.”
He added that on Wednesday, while the policemen were heading for the hideout of these Kidnappers, they were ambushed. It has been these arrested suspects who had led them to their den but the other Kidnappers had ladi ambush on the way so they can rescue their members.
This led to a gun duel and the police operatives were successfully able to kill 4 Kidnappers. The 4 Kidnappers they had killed had been trying to escape when they got caught in the ceasefire. They were taken to the General Hospital in Kwale and it was here the doctor on duty confirmed confirmed dead. Some of the officers also sustained gunshot injuries but are receiving treatment.
