Police officer kills man over N100 in Delta state


A police officer has reportedly killed a businessman in Delta state over a sum of N100.

This came after the man refused to give him a bribe of N100 at a checkpoint.
This incident happened on Thursday, April 6 2023.

This news has brought about serious tension in the state

There has been protests in Asaba as many are angry at the policeman who committed the crime.

Many youths were Angered by this act and they decided to go to the Police headquarters in the state demanding that justice be served in this case.

The victim has been identified as Ibe Emmanuel Onyeka. We learnt he was shot at Ugbolu area in Asaba, Delta state.

The victim was a phone dealer in Asaba and he was a young man in his early twenties.

Mr Ari Mohammed Ali who is the commissioner of Police in Delta state was the one who confirmed this.

He said that they were at a security council meeting that afternoon when they got a distressed call saying a police officer had shot and killed an innocent man.

He said they rushed to close the meeting and then on getting to the headquarters saw many youths protesting.

He mentioned that the police command does not approve of this action and the police inspector has been arrested with some other team members.

He assured the public that justice would be served as they do not condone such actions.

The policeman, Inspector Obi Ebri who is the suspect of this crime claims it wasn't intentional.

He claimed that no one demanded money from the deceased but he had refused to stop for a check.
