Port Harcourt building collapses, 4 injured.
4 people were injured in the recent building collapses in Port Harcourt. This happened yesterday, Thursday in Rivers State.
The Governor of Rivers state, Siminialayi Fubara has given orders that an investigation into this case be carried out immediately.
The building which collapsed was a two-storey building that was said to be under construction. This building is located on Okilton Drive, Ada George in Port Harcourt.
Those who were on site and were injured were those workers who were working on the site before the building collapses.
Some workers were trapped inside the building before the emergency responders came to rescue them.
Chukwuemeka Woke, who is the Commissioner for Special Projects, represented the Governor and went to check these sites. It was after they inspected it, that the Governor ordered for an investigation.
He gave directives to the Ministry of Urban Development and told them to take immediate site investigations. They are also to take destructive and non-destructive tests on the structures that collapsed.
All this js to determine the strengths of these structures to understand and analyze the cause of the collapse.
He mentioned that after the tests and investigations have been completed, if they discover any compromises on the part of everyone involved in the project, such persons will be prosecuted.
The Governor also paid a visit to the hospital to see the victims and sympathize with them.
The doctors at the hospital revealed that the victims are in stable condition and will be discharged in a few days time.
The state government has also ordered equipment that will ensure the evacuation of the debris on that site. The building will also be closed down.
An eyewitness on site revealed some of the workers had begun to notice cracks in the building.
They then raised alarm and suddenly the building began to shake and started collapsing.
Those who were downstairs were able to run off and escape.
