The 24-year-old has now committed his future to the Old Trafford club for an additional five years with a one-year extension clause, marking another milestone in his career with Manchester United.

After a bizarre initial start to his Old Trafford career, Diogo Dalot is now a key member of Manchester United squad under Erik Ten Hag.

He has been instrumental to Manchester United's brilliant Premier League finish under Ten Hag.

Dalot signed a five-year contract with Manchester United after joining the club from Porto in 2018. He struggled to earn a starting berth with the club and was loaned to AC Milan in 2020/21 season.

However, under Erik Ten Hag, Dalot has breath life back into his career at Manchester United and has been instrumental to Ten Hag's mini-revival at the club in the just-concluded 2022/23 season.

Throughout his five-year stint with the club, Dalot has made 107 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United with his 2022/23 season tally being his most, having made 42 appearances for the club.

Diogo Dalot won his first trophy with Manchester United this season under Erik Ten Hag. He played the full 90 minutes as Manchester United edged out Newcastle United to clinch their first trophy in years.

Dalot was also instrumental in Manchester United's semifinal win over Brighton, playing the full 120 minutes before the penalty shootout win.

Dalot's contract renewal is coming at the backdrop of Manchester United summer clearout plan with some players facing an uncertain future in the club.

The club are also targeting more summer signings to beef up the squad with some players players set to leave in the summer.

Amidst the uncertainties surrounding the future of some players in the summer, Dalot has secured his future with the club with the new deal.

In an official statement from the club's website, Manchester United announced Diogo Dalot has penned a new five-year contract with the club.

The Portuguese will now complete a decade spell with Manchester United, having exhausted five years with the club.

There is also a one-year contract extension attached to the new deal implying Dalot could stay at Old Trafford until 2029 when he will clock 30.

After opening a new chapter in his Manchester United career, the Portuguese narrated his 'fantastic five years' with Manchester United and the progress he has recorded since joining the club.

He also reiterated his resolve to remain committed to the club and help them achieve their aims.

"We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years and I've grown so much - and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined.

"I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group to achieve its aims and make the fans proud of this team."

Diogo Dalot is among few Manchester United stars that have renewed their contract with the club.

Manchester United poster boy and highest goal scorer this season, Marcus Rashford, is yet to renew his contract.

Former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper and one of the oldest players in the squad, David de Gea, is yet to pen a new deal with the club with negotiations ongoing.

Phil Jones will leave the club next month as his contract contract ends in the summer.

Also, there are reports the club will not keep Burnley and Bayern Munich loanee Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer when their loan deal runs out next month.
