An unnamed Premier League player has become the first footballer to check into rehab over an addiction to laughing gas.
The football star is expected to be accompanied by colleagues, who are also addicted to crack.
Reports that the usage of laughing gas is sprawling among top footballers despite it being illegal, have continued to grow in recent years.
This has now degenerated that an unnamed Premier League star was admitted to a medical center after his troubled family requested assistance from his club.
Police had stopped a car in which he was a passenger and they found several canisters in the footwell.
The incident occurred some weeks before Christmas, however, it did not result in police action as they could not substantiate who they belonged to.
Anyway, a source told the Sun that the footballer “was undergoing detox”.
The source said: “His family became aware and asked the club for help.
“The player was told if he wanted to save his career, he had to go to a specialist residential center and get some help.
“He’s basically undergoing detox in the same way you would if you were hooked on alcohol or any other drug.
“He’s the first Premier League footballer to be treated for addiction to nitrous oxide but, given how rife its use is among players, it’s unlikely he’ll be the last.”
Nitrous oxide is also known as “hippy crack”, and comes in canisters and they are sometimes super-sized.
They are used to fill balloons and subsequently inhaled repeatedly, with several individuals intending to get different levels of pleasure from inhaling them.
Laughing gas gives a quick high but it comes with the risk of users having heart attacks, strokes, and brain damage, while others have also died after taking it.
Prolonged use can also result in depression, memory loss, incontinence, hallucinations, and nerve damage.
The law was changed in November 2023 to make it a controlled Class C drug, with possession for inhalation now a criminal offense.
In locations where there are strict rules, it would be nearly impossible for footballers convicted to play there, such as the United States Of America and Saudi Arabia.
Several stars have been found in possession and using nitrous oxide, known as hippy crack, including; Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, and Dele Alli.
In 2013, Walker was pictured inhaling hippy crack, while in 2015, Raheem Sterling was also seen taking it, with him being reprimanded by then-Liverpool boss Brendan Rogers for his actions.
Grealish was also pictured in 2019 inhaling from a balloon, whilst he was at West Midlands side Aston Villa.
In 2023, embattled English footballer Dele Alli was also snapped at an unspecified location surrounded by gas canisters and alcohol.
It is understood that none of these players are the star in rehab, with the Premier League footballer's personality relatively unknown at the time of writing.
