English football is one of the most competitive divisions in elite-level football, having some of the biggest and richest teams in the world.

From the 2000s on, the top six teams in England at the end of each season tend to reach the domestic cup finals with the same teams generally competing for continental qualification.

Unlike some of its counterparts across Europe, where one or two clubs are dominant, English football features what has become popularly known as 'The Big Six'.

These clubs attract some of the best players in the world and are the envy of clubs across Europe.

They are the most consistently successful teams in English football reaching finals and winning trophies in their domestic leagues.

In this article, we bring you the six biggest successful clubs who constantly reached the domestic cup finals since 2000.

1. Chelsea

The Blues are number one on the list of the most successful English clubs as they reached 18 finals of their domestic leagues but won only nine.

Despite this record, Chelsea have been and remain a dominant force in English football in recent years.

Though not a traditional powerhouse in English football, the Blues grew in stature and most of their success have come since the turn of the century and soon became a member of the 'top six' with Roman Abramovich's investment.

Past managers such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte, and Thomas Tuchel delivered numerous trophies and solidified Chelsea as one of the biggest teams in England.

2. Manchester United

Manchester United are the second most successful team in this category of English football, with Sir Alex Ferguson helping to establish the club as the dominant force in the region.

Manchester United have always had a great squad. However, most of their success came under the Scottish manager, who helped the Old Trafford club to win many domestic cups including 13 of their 20 premier league titles under him.

However, United have failed to maintain that dominance since Ferguson retired in 2013, but they remain a powerhouse financially and continue to challenge at the top end of their domestic leagues.

The Red Devils recently ended their six-year trophy drought as they lifted the EFL Cup against Newcastle United last season under Erik Ten Hag.

Since the year 2000, Manchester United have reached 12 domestic cup finals and won 7.

3. Arsenal

Despite enduring a tough spell in recent years, the Gunners remain one of the most successful clubs in England.

While Arsenal's achievements have declined over a decade now, particularly after the departure of Arsene Wenger, the Gunners continue to be part of the 'big six'.

They have found themselves at the lower end of the 'big six' in recent years, but since Mikel Arteta took leadership of the Emirates club, he has transformed their fortunes.

The Gunners have won the Premier League title twice since the turn of the century.

Interestingly, Arsenal are the most successful side in FA Cup history winning the competition a record 14 times.

The Gunners have reached 11 domestic cup finals since the year 2000 and won 7.

4. Manchester City

Manchester City's part in England's 'big six' became more radical in the 2010s when they began to win major titles.

Having been taken over by Sheikh Mansour's Abu Dhabi group in 2008, the Sky Blues became a prominent force in England, attracting some of the best players and football managers.

Manchester City had a stellar year in 2023 after they clinched a historic treble in June.

Masterminded by the ever-great tactician Pep Guardiola, City won the Premier League and FA Cup and rounded off the treble with their maiden Champions League title win in Istanbul.

Since 2000, Manchester City have participated in 10 domestic cup finals and did well to lift 9.

5. Liverpool

Liverpool have established themselves as one of the top dogs in English football, but the Merseyside outfit had to wait until 2020 before they hoisted their first Premier League title.

Despite struggles in England, the Merseyside club succeeded in Europe.

Liverpool have won the Champions League six times; the most by any English club. The Reds also won multiple UEFA Cups and Super Cups.

Since 2000, the Merseyside giants hoisted 7 out of the 10 domestic cup finals they participated in.

Overall, Liverpool have won 19 Premier League titles, eight FA Cups, and nine EFL cups.

6. Tottenham

Tottenham, interestingly, are the only one of the 'big six' not to have won a Premier League title.

Their part in the 'big six' is down to the fact that they have maintained a high level of performance for a sustained period, regularly qualifying for the Champions League and Europa League, as well as challenging for domestic trophies.

Since the year 2000, Spurs have qualified and played in 5 domestic cup finals of which they only won the Carling Cup final in 2008 when they defeated Chelsea 2-1.
