President Tinubu has added a sum of N10,000 to the workers' salaries for the next six months.

This was confirmed after a closed door meeting which the Federal government had with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to forestall the impending strike.

The president already approved an additional N25,000 to be made available for all workers for the next six months. He made this known during his Independence Day speech yesterday.

Tinubu said, "Based on our talks with labor, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation.

For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional twenty-five thousand naira per month."

However, the NLC outrightly rejected the offer, saying it was too low and they wanted more.

Both parties later came to a resolution and agreed that an additional N10,000 be added to the N25,000 to make it N35,000. This will serve as a provisional wage award for all workers as a means to limit the cost of transportation due to the subsidy removal.

To this effect, the FG has urged the labour force not to go on strike as necessary measures are being put in place to ensure their needs are met.
