Well-known Nigerian rapper Ruggedman has claims that most Nigerian musicians lack depth in their music. He says that the music they produce now doesn't really have meaning to it.
Rugedman is a rapper and his real name is Michael Ugochukwu Stephen. He is 47 years old and is from Abia state.
He recently shared his feelings about Nigerian music in an interview with Hip TV.
He says the music we hear nowadays doesn't really have meaning. He says most Afrobeats singers focus more on the beat of the music than the content of the song which is the lyrics.
He went ahead to urge Afrobeats musicians to pay attention to their lyrics and be conscious of what the song is about and what it means or passes across.
He shared that not everybody can do the same thing or have the same mindset. He believes People who are conscious and want to produce conscious music that will pass messages across to the listeners need inspiration. They should try to inspire those who only care about dancing to the beats.
He mentioned that Afrobeats is now global and millions of people either Nigerians or people who aren't Nigerians actually listen to it.
He says a musician who is conscious about his music will use his platforms to preach peace, creativity, and positivity to the millions of people who will listen.
He says he hopes the Big Afrobeats stars in Nigeria will pay attention to the power they have as stars to be conscious about their music even as they dance and have fun in their music.
