Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, National President of the Academic Staff Union (ASUU), expressed sympathy for the students affected by the strike.

This was pointed out by Osodeke in response to the federal government releasing 34 billion N to pay for the subsequent minimum wage adjustment.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 in protest of the implementation of several collectivebargaining agreements negotiated with the federal government between 2009 and 2020, as well as better welfare packagesand better working conditions.

He argued that student suffering was detrimental to Nigeria's future and education system. According to NAN, students are not punished, but at the cost of Nigeria's powerful education system.

"ASUU sympathizes with them and believes that if we continue to fight, there is an educational system that allows Nigerian students to access the same auditorium as their international students," Osodeke added.

When the federal government failed to meet their demands, President ASUU argued that the strike does not need to be stopped.
