Real Madrid's coaching staff are reportedly set to negotiate with Chelsea over the acquisition of Kapa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea and Real Madrid successfully reached an agreement for Kepa's arrival over the summer, when Thibaut Courtois was put on the sidelines for the long term with an ACL injury.

The former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper has established himself with the first team since his move to the Spanish capital.

He has pulled off several key saves and there is talk ongoing over his permanent move in January.

If that were to happen, football lovers would expect Andriy Lunin to be a third-choice goalkeeper and could force him to leave in search of consistent playing time somewhere else.

Kapa joined Real Madrid due to the injury Thibaut Courtois sustained on Thursday, August 10 during a training session.

The move comes after Kepa ruled out a chance to join Bayern Munich, preferring a return to Spain.

Before the arrival of Kapa, Carlo Ancelotti had the inexperienced Andriy Lunin in his squad but the Italian manager wanted another option for the rest of the season.

Kepa's struggles for playing time at Chelsea led to a reduced role within the team. The former Athletic Club goalkeeper joined the Blues for a record fee of over 80 million euros, making him the most expensive goalkeeper ever.

He won the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League with the west London club.

Real Madrid were forced to explore the goalkeeper market after first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois underwent an ACL injury right before the beginning of the season that has kept the Belgian International out for the rest of the season.

Despite that, Real Madrid have managed to proceed with delivering results consistently and deserves tremendous credit for their performances this season so far.

Kepa Arrizabalaga got injured during the warm-up ahead of the game against SC Braga, which made Andriy Lunin fill his void, and has recently received a lot of praise for his outstanding performance.

Lunin was brought in as a replacement and has played well to announce that he is ready to perform when called upon.

With Kepa still out injured, the 24-year-old has gotten a bit of a run in the team and influenced a lot of fans with his recent performances. Hence, when the Spaniard returns to full fitness, he looks capable of taking his place back in the first team.

What's next for Real Madrid?

It remains to be seen if the Spanish powerhouse will explore a move for Kepa Arrizabalaga when the transfer window opens in January 2024.
